Essential But Illegal

Race and social justice continues to quake around the United States of America. A continued problem is the lack of social acceptance and abuse of labor rights towards minorities. The minority community has struggled in retaining rights despite being a key piece of the workforce in the United States. American historian and professor at USC, Natalia Molina joined the University of Houston for a seminar discussing the problems consisting minority work abuse. Here below are some of my Live Tweets during Professor Molina’s seminar.

The interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Dan O’Connor helped introduce Professor Natalia Molina.

Professor Molina joins the seminar and immediately provides sources and information over minority abuse. She explained how the emergence of COVID-19 has further hampered minority workers. The need for meat industries and factories to remain active has forced workers to work close to each other. They are further exploited by the system and by the virus.

These two pair of tweets provide more information shared by Natalia Molina. She shares with us the term LatinX. A new term that looks to be more inclusive.

The tweets above show historic discrimination and abuse towards minority workers. The photo shared exhibits the inhumane extents used to ‘fix’ or assimilate the LatinX community. Spatial racism has caused the Latin community to live near undesirable sights. Gas factories and prisons are examples of those neighboring conditions.

The image on the Tweet details a non profit organization aimed at creating healthier options. Fellow Professor De Genova joins the session to offer his opinion on the exploitation.

Molina answers a question from the panel sharing her opinion on language. She believes language is not the main issue, but a key are in creating further difference.

The session concluded. My final tweet details more Natalia Molina content for interested consumers.

Link below covers full Wakelet of Live Tweets for Natalia Molina’s ‘Essential But Illegal’ seminar.
